Mary Ann Bartz, 79, of Westgate, died Monday, August 27, 2012, at Community Memorial Hospital in Sumner, following a brief illness with cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 31 2012, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner with Rev. Herbert Mueller officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, August 30, 2012, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner and for one hour preceding services at the funeral home on Friday. Interment will be at St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery, Westgate.
Mary Ann, daughter of Edmund and Evelyn Zieske Ommen, was born May 18, 1933, in Chickasaw County, Iowa. She was baptized July 9, 1933, and confirmed December 22, 1950, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg.
Mary Ann was employed for fifteen years at the Hillcrest Home in Sumner prior to her retirement. She was a resident of Westgate and was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Westgate. She enjoyed spending time with her family and her dog, Cocoa and also enjoyed gardening and fishing.
Mary Ann is survived by three sons, Steven Strempke of Independence, Darrell Strempke of Oelwein, and Rob (Missy) Strempke of Hazelton; one daughter, Holly (Curtis) Kuhse of Edgewood; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren; three sisters, Delores Tracy of Sumner, JoAnn (Leon) Lease of Sumner, and Clarine (Ron) Hartman of Readlyn; and seven step children, Carol, Alice, Linda, Russell, Luann, Denise, and Diann.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Bartz; her parents; two sisters, Roberta Melhus and Arlene Clark; and one granddaughter.
